When first being presented with the option of joining the Independent Study and Mentorship program, I was immediately intrigued by the self-paced work environment and the variety of topics to choose from. Personally, I have always been interested in medicine (specifically Dermatology). With this being said, the Independent Study and Mentorship program allows me to fully explore my intended career path while shadowing a selected professional. I think it benefits each student to attend interviews/meetings with professionals as they will gain real-world experience and understand the concept of a memorable impression. In ISM, I have recently been able to create a digital profile on the website “Wix” which has helped me discover the importance of organization and how to present detailed information regarding myself and my topic in a concise manner. I plan on adding my research regarding dermatological treatments, innovations, and techniques utilized in the field as the year progresses. In addition, building a profile on “LinkedIn” has been helpful in making connections with professionals. I have been able to improve my communication skills as it is crucial to network with individuals to receive beneficial opportunities in the future. I enjoy how employers have the ability to view my profile and see my qualifications (such as academics, extracurriculars, and interests). These social media platforms give me the chance to present my work-ethic, passion, and leadership qualities to others.
