As the Independent Study and Mentorship program has begun its rapid progression, I have personally been allowed the opportunity to research and learn extensive knowledge regarding Dermatology. This past week, I decided to investigate further by reading an article titled “Clinical Dermatology and COVID-19 Pandemic” which was written by a variety of professionals within the profession. Within the article, I was able to decipher how COVID-19 has had an enormous effect on dermatological practices and administrative operations. To go more in depth, the primary adjustments made were patient consultations and precautionary efforts being established such as wearing face coverings, hand-washing stations, screening patients for fever/symptoms prior to their appointment, and prioritizing emergent patients. After analyzing the article, I was able to become insightful on the latest safety developments prior to shadowing a professional as the pandemic continues to be a present issue. Aside from gaining more content based knowledge, I think I improved on time-management this week. Improving this skill will allow me to organize and plan my priorities more efficiently which is required with such a rigorous course. On the other hand, I did have a difficult time completing Assessment #2 as the assignment is demanding and requires a lengthy inspection regarding new comprehension of the specific topic chosen. To conclude, I am looking forward to gaining more information on how working conditions within Dermatology have improved with the release of COVID-19 vaccinations and upcoming treatment plans.
